On Tuesday morning a crowd of about 75 people, gathered at the Camden High School athletic field to witness the unveiling of the new state of the art scoreboard. The football field was renamed to honor the late Lewis Katz who was a Camden High school alum.
The young football players and students from Camden High School looked on with excitement and gratitude as the new scoreboard was unveiled. The Katz Family Foundation donated $300,000 on behalf of the Millionaire Philanthropist, who died in 2014 in a private plane crash.
Mr. Stanley White and the We Can Do This (With a little help from our friends), launched the major fundraiser back in May of 2018 as part of a three phase effort to make improvements to the athletic field. The new scoreboard completes phase 1 of the project. The next effort will be to raise funds for new bleachers and a new field house complete with locker rooms meeting space and concessions.
It was great to see the start of some long overdue improvements at the field where I once ran track. The bleachers have been in bad shape for many years and are not up to code. That will hopefully be behind The High as the start of the new school year begins with a new name and new scoreboard for Camden High’s Football field.
